Me talking into a cube

Hello!

Question: What do you call someone who is only your friend because of your money? PayPal.

(Warning: dad jokes are a big part of my life now)

You’re getting this email because we interacted via email at some point, and that means you were downloaded into a giant csv file and uploaded to my mail merge (congrats!) As a refresher, my name is Nic Beique. I’m the founder and CEO of Helcim, a Calgary-based payments company. That’s also my photo at the top. (If it's been a while since we met, do not be alarmed, yes, I have aged.)

I’ve realized that what the world is really missing right now is another tech founder sharing his opinions and observations, so I’m launching a personal newsletter called “No Hidden Fees”. (you’re welcome, world)

What topics can you expect?

I’ll be writing about the things I’m most passionate about: payments, fintech, team culture, decision-making, strategy, and championing small businesses. I’m also bullish on Canada’s technology future - and why I believe we have all the ingredients to build something truly extraordinary for the next generation.

And expect the occasional personal anecdotes about my love of just building things in general, including Lego, coding, woodworking, and fatherhood.

Who’s this for?

Whether you're a startup founder, a freelancer, small business owner, a businessman, or business woman, or whatever affiliation of business gender you identify with, this newsletter might be for you (or it might really not be, only time will tell.)

I’d love for you to subscribe using the link below. But if you decide not to, I won’t be (very) offended.

One last question: What’s it like subscribing to a newsletter about elevators? It has its ups and downs, but overall, it's pretty uplifting!

(I did warn you earlier about dad jokes, this one is on you).

Let this new adventure begin!

Chat next week,

-Nic
